Acceptable Use Policy
Last updated: [date]
Ekire rents virtual servers. What you run on yours is mostly your own business. Some things are not, because they put other customers, the network, or Ekire at risk. This page lists them. It applies to anyone using an Ekire account, whether you signed up yourself or someone else set the account up for you.
If you are not sure whether something here applies to what you want to run, ask at [email protected] first.
Prohibited uses
Illegal content and activity
Do not use Ekire to store, host, or share anything that is illegal where you are or where the server runs. This includes child sexual abuse material. We report that material to the authorities in every case. It also includes content intended to threaten or incite violence.
Spam
Do not send bulk unsolicited email, messages, or promotions from an Ekire server. This covers:
- Mail to people who did not ask to hear from you
- Lists you bought, scraped, or harvested
- Anything that hides the sender: forged headers, fake return paths, misleading subject lines
Opt-in mailing lists are allowed. Honor unsubscribe requests.
Attacks on other systems
Do not use an Ekire server to launch a denial-of-service or DDoS attack, flood a target with traffic, or take part in a botnet. Our DDoS scrubbing applies to inbound traffic to your servers. It does not cover traffic you send out. A server sending an attack is taken offline.
Network abuse and scanning
Do not scan, brute-force, or probe systems you do not own without written permission from the owner. Also prohibited:
- Port scanning or vulnerability scanning against third parties
- Spoofing IP addresses or forging network traffic
- Intercepting or tampering with traffic that is not yours
- Anything that degrades the shared network or the hardware around you
Testing systems you own, or systems you have been hired to test, is allowed. Keep your written authorization. We may ask for it.
Phishing and malware
Do not host phishing pages, fake login screens, or any site built to steal credentials. Do not distribute malware, ransomware, or spyware. Do not run command-and-control infrastructure.
Content you do not have the rights to
Do not use Ekire to share copyrighted or trademarked material you do not own and are not licensed to distribute. If a rights holder sends us a valid complaint, we forward it to you and expect you to resolve it.
Gray areas
Security research, penetration testing, and Tor or VPN exit nodes are not banned. Work of this kind can look like abuse from the outside, so if you are running something that may draw an abuse report, tell us at [email protected] beforehand, and when a report arrives we will know the traffic is yours rather than a sign that your server has been compromised.
Enforcement
Most reports turn out to be a compromised server or a mistake. The first step is usually a warning.
- Warning. We contact you, explain the issue, and give you a chance to fix it.
- Suspension. If the problem continues or you do not respond, we take the server offline until it is resolved.
- Termination. For severe or repeated abuse, we close the account.
Some cases are suspended immediately, with no warning first: an active outbound attack, child sexual abuse material, or anything causing ongoing harm to other people or systems.
Reporting abuse
To report abuse coming from an Ekire server, email [email protected]. Include the IP address, timestamps with the time zone, and any log excerpts you can share.
Changes to this policy
We may update this policy as the service changes. If we make a meaningful change, we will update the date at the top of this page.
